TIME REMINDER
This simulation is broken up into four 15-minute “weeks” representing one month in the life of a refugee family.
TASKS
You have four major tasks:
- COLLECT Transportation Passes (1 per family) when they arrive at your table.
- BUY items for 50% of the value listed on the card - after all, they are used! If they haggle, give them 75% of the value – no more! You’ve got your own family to feed, and you need to make a profit!
- SELL items for 25% more than the listed price.
- Almost never give someone the correct change. If you think someone won’t count their money, say you’ll buy it for $50, but only give them $45. Don’t scam people out of more than $5 after the 50% payment.
Morality Alignment
CHAOTIC NEUTRAL = Takes any chance to make a Quick Buck. May scam some people along the way.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- TRANSPORTATION PASSES
- Collect 1 pass per family per visit. Those without transportation passes should be turned away.
- DO NOT ACCEPT EBT/TANF BENEFITS
- SCAMMING STUDENTS
- If you think someone may not count the money you give them or does not speak English, you may try to “make a quick buck” by scamming them out of some of their money. You may take up to $5 - no more!
- If you run out of money or transportation passes, one staff member or floater can go around to other businesses to collect “used” ones to sell again.
- CASHING CHECKS
- If a family comes to you with a paycheck to cash, inform them that you take 10%. (Round to the nearest dollar)
- Give them their money minus your portion.
REMINDERS:
- If someone has RED on their nametag, you may NOT speak English to them unless they have a translator present. YOU MAY MIME/GESTURE AS MUCH AS YOU LIKE (and so can they!)
- If someone has YELLOW on their nametag, you may only speak TEN words in English to them throughout your interaction unless they have a translator present. YOU MAY MIME/GESTURE AS MUCH AS YOU LIKE (and so can they!)
- Remember to keep track of your transactions in your record.
TL;DR:
Buy and Sell items through the pawn shop. Route A: Try to rip off participants in any way possible, especially if they can’t speak English and can’t argue with you. Route B: Deal with potential customers politely so they will return to buy products.
