TIME REMINDER
This simulation is broken up into four 15-minute “weeks” representing one month in the life of a refugee family.
TASKS
You have six major tasks:
- Collect Transportation Passes (1 per family)
- Collect payment for healthcare services.
- Fill out the Patient Records Sheet
- Assess why the patient has come to you to determine if they need a prescription and/or a follow-up visit.
- Schedule Follow-Up Appointments
- Write Prescriptions (as needed).
Morality Alignment
TRUE NEUTRAL = Money-Oriented, but still honest people. Will not try to take advantage of people, but not inclined to be charitable either.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- TRANSPORTATION PASSES
- Collect 1 pass per family per visit. Those without transportation passes should be turned away.
- If a person does not have enough passes, send them to Quik Cash to buy more.
- MAINTAIN PATIENT RECORD SHEET
- Check-in each patient when they come to the clinic.
- Collect the patient’s payment and check their healthcare card.
- If someone does not have a healthcare card, send them to Social Services to apply for or pick-up their Health Insurance Cards.
- Some patients may come to you with a referral from a charity or Social Services. They do not have to pay for your services – they are visiting the “Free Clinic”. If someone cannot pay for your services, you can let them know that some charities have referrals for the free clinic available.
- PATIENT CARE
- Assess why the patient has come to the clinic. Check your patient records for any pre-existing conditions.
- Determine their appropriate care:
- Do they need a Prescription?
- Do they need a Follow-Up Visit?
- Students should take their prescription forms to the pharmacy at Food-A-Rama. They will need to pay for their prescription when they get there.
- If you determine that someone needs a follow up, write them a note to remind them.
- PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS
- If someone is listed as having a pre-existing condition in the patient records but has not come to see you by Week 3, have a Floater give them a Sick-Day card. The person must come to the healthcare station for “hospitalization” and must sit with you for 3 minutes during the Week 4 and pay $50.
- PAYMENT SCALE FOR PATIENTS
- Insurance: $20 for healthcare services
- No Insurance: $80 for healthcare services
- Referral: $0 – Free Clinic
REMINDERS:
- If someone has RED on their nametag, you may NOT speak English to them unless they have a translator present. YOU MAY MIME/GESTURE AS MUCH AS YOU LIKE (and so can they!)
- If someone has YELLOW on their nametag, you may only speak TEN words in English to them throughout your interaction unless they have a translator present. YOU MAY MIME/GESTURE AS MUCH AS YOU LIKE (and so can they!)
TL;DR:
Fill out patient records, collect insurance details and charge for services, determine if they need a prescription or follow up visit for their ailment. Give students band-aids to signal care has been provided.
