TIME REMINDER
This simulation is broken up into four 15-minute “weeks” representing one month in the life of a refugee family.
TASKS
You have four major tasks:
- Collect Transportation Passes (1 per family)
- Sell groceries, clothes, and prescriptions
- Accept EBT cards, TANF benefits, and Vouchers
- Direct and Pay your Part-time employees
Morality Alignment
TRUE NEUTRAL = Money-Oriented, but still honest people. Will not try to take advantage of people, but not inclined to be charitable either.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- TRANSPORTATION PASSES
- Collect 1 pass per family per visit. Those without transportation passes should be turned away.
- If a person does not have enough passes, send them to Quik Cash to buy more.
- EBT AND TANF BENEFITS AND VOUCHERS
- Accept EBT Cards with Food Stamps and TANF cash benefits left of them as payment for groceries, clothes, and prescriptions. Remember to subtract the amount paid from their card w/ a dry erase marker.
- Food Stamps can only be used to buy food.
- Accept Food Vouchers and Clothing Vouchers for their respective products only (i.e., Clothing vouchers may not be used to buy food).
- If asked, give “cash out” some of their TANF benefits (if they have any left) for a small fee of $5. Remember to subtract the amount paid from their card w/ a dry erase marker including the fee.
- PART-TIME WORKERS
- here are two students that work part-time at the Food-A-Rama supercenter. They work part-time. They must report to you and help you however you see fit (delivering notices, cashiering, etc.) for 5 minutes each week. When the 5 minutes are up, send them home with their pay in cash every week.
- Fnu Vida (Family U) makes $255 per week.
- First Last (Family ?) makes $XXX per week.
- There are two other students that work part-time at the Food-A-Rama supercenter, but only in Week 3. They are teenagers and only work on school holidays (week 3). They must report to you and help you however you see fit (delivering notices, cashiering, etc.) for 5 minutes during Week 3. After 5 minutes, pay them $50 and send them home.
- LUCK OF THE DRAW CARDS
- Some of these cards may be used for gifts of food. Mark the amount on the Record of Payment form in the FOOD section and label it “LoD”
- HEALTH AND NUTRITION ALERT
- During the Week 3, send a “Health and Nutrition Alert” card to each family that is buying less food than their record states that they need.
- Have a floater and/or your part-time workers deliver them.
REMINDERS:
- If someone has RED on their nametag, you may NOT speak English to them unless they have a translator present. YOU MAY MIME/GESTURE AS MUCH AS YOU LIKE (and so can they!)
- If someone has YELLOW on their nametag, you may only speak TEN words in English to them throughout your interaction unless they have a translator present. YOU MAY MIME/GESTURE AS MUCH AS YOU LIKE (and so can they!)
TL;DR:
Sell groceries, clothes, and electronics, and accept EBT cards, vouchers, or cash. Pay your part-time workers and send out “Health and Nutrition Alerts” to families not buying enough food.
