TIME REMINDER
This simulation is broken up into four 15-minute “weeks” representing one month in the life of a refugee family.
TASKS
You have six major tasks to divide as you see fit among the General Employer “staff”:
- Sign Children In and Out of Daycare
- Help families enroll in Daycare.
- Collect fees.
- Hand out School Opportunity/Challenge Cards
- Terminate Childcare if they do not pay.
- Call the Child Protective Services Officer if a child is not picked up by the end of the week.
Morality Alignment
TRUE GOOD = Honest, Charity-Focused people. You want to help!
RESPONSIBILITIES
- TRANSPORTATION PASSES
- Collect 1 pass per family per visit.
- If someone does not have enough transportation passes, send them to Quik Cash.
- GENERAL INFORMATION
- You currently have 1 child enrolled from the Perez (W) Family.
- Otherwise, you have 5 spots open for new families to enroll. After you fill all six of these spots, you are FULL and cannot take any more children.
- Daycare is for children aged 1 to 5 ONLY. Older kids will need to go to School.
- SIGN-IN SHEET
- Tell families they must sign-in and sign-out their children each week. If they forget to sign them in/out, this is Neglect. Children left at the daycare at the end of the week will be taken to the Police Station. Notify the Child Protective Services Officer of any and all child neglect.
- COLLECT FEES
- Payment is due at the beginning of the week/when the child is dropped off.
- You accept Head Start Vouchers or CASH ONLY. Do NOT accept EBT/TANF benefits.
- Some families cannot afford to pay for daycare. Let them know that the Interfaith Services have Head Start vouchers for needy families.
- If at any point in the month a family does not pay at the beginning of the week, terminate their child’s enrollment and give their spot to someone on the waiting list.
- ENROLLMENT
- If families want to enroll their child, have them fill out and sign the enrollment forms. Families that do not speak English (Red) or speak little English (Yellow) should get the Blacked-Out Enrollment forms.
- If you are full, they will go on the waiting list and will have to return next week to see if there are spots available. If a child that is enrolled does not show that week, you can give someone on the waiting list their spot. (First-come, First-served).
- CHILDCARE CHALLENGE CARDS
- Parents that work face lots of problems with the need for childcare. During the Simulation, hand out 1 Challenge Card per week to a random family with a child enrolled at your Daycare when they drop them off.
REMINDERS:
- If someone has RED on their nametag, you may NOT speak English to them unless they have a translator present. YOU MAY MIME/GESTURE AS MUCH AS YOU LIKE (and so can they!)
- If someone has YELLOW on their nametag, you may only speak TEN words in English to them throughout your interaction unless they have a translator present. YOU MAY MIME/GESTURE AS MUCH AS YOU LIKE (and so can they!)
TL;DR:
Provide childcare for those who can pay or have a Head Start voucher, if families do not pay – do not let them drop off their child, if a child is left with you too long, call the police.
