TIME REMINDER

This simulation is broken up into four 15-minute “weeks” representing one month in the life of a refugee family.

TASKS

You have five major tasks:

  1. Collect Transportation Passes (1 per family) when they arrive at your table.
  2. Make referrals for the Free Clinic at Community Healthcare for those who need medical attention.
  3. Educate students on the services you provide and the resources around the room.
  4. Give out cash for food, food vouchers, utility vouchers, and Head Start vouchers. Remember that you only have so many.
  5. Carry out Luck of the Draw cards and School Opportunity/Challenge Cards for students who received them.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. TRANSPORTATION PASSES
    1. Collect 1 pass per family per visit. Those without ANY transportation passes should be turned away.
    2. If a family needs more transportation passes but can’t afford them, you may give them a few (no more than 5 per family).
    3. Families that can afford it should be sent to Quik Cash to buy more transportation passes for $1 each.
  2. REFERRALS
    1. Make referrals to the Free Clinic at Community Healthcare for those who cannot afford it and/or do not have Health Insurance.
    2. Send students to appropriate services as needed.

  3. TRANSLATION SERVICES
    1. Two staff members will act as Translators for families/individuals who do not speak English.
      1. Upon request, you may either help a family on-site at the RRA or go with them to another service provider.
      2. YOU do not need transportation passes, but the family will.
      3. Families may only use the translator for 1 (one) minute in a week before you must return to the RRA. This minute starts when they begin interacting with the service and you may stand in line with them for an unlimited amount of time. If the week ends, you must return to the RRA regardless of time left for a family.
      4. You will act as a “FREE PASS” to speak English. Students using your services with RED or YELLOW on their nametags are entitled to the normal (not blacked-out) versions of any forms even if you leave after they receive the form.
  4. DISTRIBUTE VOUCHERS TO NEEDY FAMILIES
    1. Record any cash or vouchers you give our on your Tracker.
    2. Use your discretion when giving out charity, you only have so much to give. You may give it all to one family, but then others could go hungry.
    3. Families may only receive one of each voucher PER MONTH. (Utility, Food, and Head Start)
    4. Head Start vouchers are for one child age 1-3 (infants/toddlers) to receive a month of free daycare at Building Blocks Daycare.
    5. Do not give out all of your vouchers out in Week 1.
  5. LUCK OF THE DRAW & SCHOOL CHALLENGE CARDS
    1. If a person comes to you with either of the cards, do what if says and then keep the card.
